Kaleidoscope Burl
I was digging through my storage bins in my shop and found a kit I'd purchased some time ago... Then I found a small but pretty chunk of Big Leaf Maple burl... Then I made this!
This week, a shorter video, no talky (just can't) this time, and mostly in real time. This was an easy project overall, but the kit was a bit fiddly. I can't remember where I purchased it, sorry.
I hope you enjoy! Please like and share, and even subscribe if I've earned it.
I appreciate your time either way.

Segmented Bowl Kit
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Segmented turning made easier with a kit and simple instructions. Walnut and maple are always a great combination, and that is what I used in this video to make a nice little food safe bowl. I hope you enjoy it! I appreciate your time and interest very much and look forward to reading your comments on the results. Thanks, Mike Pearson, for sending me this kit to try out! While I’m not sponsored...
Making the MR Charcuterie Board

Wood can be so beautiful all by itself, but when multiple species of beautiful wood are combined... well, you get something truly special. Balck Walnut, Tigerwood, Zebrano, Figured Maple, along with some thin strips of Maple and Mahogany veneer, are on the menu for this week's project. Pull up a chair, a nice cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy. Music: Canon in D Major by Kevin MacLeod is licensed ...
More fun with Bocote

Is the pen mightier than the Thumper? Inquiring minds want to know... Thank you everyone for the massive response to my Thumper video last week! I appreciate it very much. In this video I make use of the remaining little block of Bocote wood (boe coe tay... thanks for the phonetic help, lol) Pen making is just pure fun and almost instantly rewarding. I hope you enjoy this short video of how I g...
Making Thumpers

Multi use tool for daily use depending on your job, hobby, or other activities. Use it to rough check your tire pressure by hearing the tone. Use it for humanly dispatching fish, whether out deep-sea fishing or hauling in a huge northern pike up through a hole in the ice... Whatever you use it for, here's how to make them on a wood lathe. I make two in this video, one from cherry wood and the o...
Woodturning a Flashy Sapele Bowl
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
Sapele never disappoints but sometimes it has a WOW factor. So much flash! Topped with a 48 segment ring of figured maple separated by mahogany veneer, this a bowl with a lot going on... movement and flash in the grain. Thanks so much for tuning in! I know it's been a while. It was a required break to allow for some healing. Torn tendons, 99% better now. Special thanks to all of you that reache...
Wood Spirit Number 4

Completed with a chainsaw and die grinder with a bit of sanding to finish it off. No tool action, just some short videos showing progress from start to finish. Happy 2024 everyone, I hope it's a great one for you. I'm kicking the year off with this very short video of a craft I'm very much enjoying. I need new challenges to keep me going, folks! That doesn't mean I'm giving up the old ones thou...
Cigar Pen Turning with Christmas Colors
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Pen turning is so enjoyable! It was a needed time of easy woodturning for me, so I thought I'd share it with you. These are two Cigar Pens, green with chromed hardware, and red with 24kt plated hardware. I thought they would be nice colors for the Christmas season. Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoyed! I used a GoPro head mounted camera for this video… let me know what you think. I think...

How I Woodturned a Redwood Board

From a dimensional board to a segmented vase. 100% redwood from base to rim, same board. This one took quite a few days! I trimmed it down for better viewing, while still showing all the steps involved, from the resawing to jointing and segmenting for ring building, then woodturning inside and out. I hope you enjoy! Thanks to those of you sticking with me through my intermittent video productio...

One man's trash is another man's treasure... This old piece of junk was worth the effort of restoring. I hope you enjoy! I know it isn't woodturning, but there is a little woodworking and plenty of sparks too. More videos coming soon, from the forest and the woodshop! Wood Spirit Waldemar I
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Fun in the woods with a chainsaw or two. From a mysterious door to a giant pencil and a wood spirit or two, my forest trail is becoming an adventure. Waldemar the First (pronounced with a V sound and named by my momma) is about 11 feet off the ground at the top of his head. Chainsaw carving is something I'm relatively new to, so you probably don't want to follow my example, lol. In this video I...

Dice trays with some style and risk. Who else likes to play board games? I know I do. It's always a good time spent with family and friends. I used Sapele and Black Walnut wood, a variety of tools to include a laser engraver, the new Wedge Pro, a table saw, bandsaw, various sanders, and my lathe. So, there's something for everyone in this video. Please enjoy! I appreciate your time and will loo...

First time watching you..following!
I wonder how many people have wandered up to find this and what they thought!
Very nice!!
A stunning piece of wood and the finish turned out just great after all the problems the piece gave you. Love it.
This is just the way I would have to do it, I am encouraged that I now think I could, thanks for that. Love those old bowls and am thinking I might get some smaller planters for herbs and a few flowers this way.
The craftsmen are extremely skilled
Just another old Marine. 73 years old and have been turning for only 3 years. Lots of pens and now several bowls. Would really like to get at least one of those eagle, globe and anchor with the red on the ends pen blanks. Are those available or are those specially made? Thanks for the videos. Finally subscribed. Semper fi.
You take Sorry! You make too big a deal of nothing!! You sound good but you're results are nominal. 13:52
I pray every day for all people and their families who have to deal with the big C of all types. There are bigger things to get all bent about than how to say something, potato "potawto" Something else we all can agree to disagree about.
How do you keep the maple from staining with padauk dust?
I like the shape of the bowel,I also like that ceader wood color.
Epoxy makes a nice plug.
You should have tried pouring it with resin with bold colors.
Goes to prove that mother nature isn't perfect!
Get religious and lose me.
I have seen truckers thump the tires, but I did not know it was about hearing the tone. I supposed it was about the bounce. Thanks.
Thank you for explaining everything.
i just had a 40 ft sweet gum blow down in my yard. I was going to have the thing cut up and hauled off, but no I think a few feet of the trunk may be worth saving for bowl blanks thanks to your video. I can turn them green and let them dry in sawdust for a couple of years.
Very cool. I didn't know such a thing as a power carver existed. My grand dad used to carve, but he only used chisels and carving knives as far as I know.
10:20 and cops use them to beat people 🤷
I thought they were going to be used to lure sandworms.
I like the way you think!
Beautiful wood grain,beautiful bowl.
Nice job mate. I started to do a few at the Mens Shed here in Tasmania. They worked out well and your video helps me to improve.
Always cool the first time you hit something with wax, oil or a cleaner
I have the same cart. What wheels did you use to replace the original.
Monarch butterflies are my spirit animal. Your mom is AWESOME. I had the opportunity to release one (after whispering my wish to it which came true later on) years ago. I absolutely LOVE the caterpillar on the back!
Nice! The simple projects are so rewarding.
I love kaleidoscopes. This one is so cool. The burl is beautiful.
Great job!!!
Stunning.
Lots of good lessons on this one. Nice recovery
I saw an aluminum thumper meant for self defense that had three sections threaded together. The manufacturer wouldn't even show it thumping a durable target. I like your wood idea a lot better.
